Indian Army kills 10 insurgents near Myanmar Border In Manipur

New Delhi: The Indian army has confirmed at least 10 insurgents killed in an ongoing counter-insurgency operation in Manipur, a northeastern state bordering Myanmar, plagued with conflict. The latest announcement came through an X  post on Wednesday stating that "a sizable quantity of arms and ammunition" was also recovered.

It is part of a military crackdown against militant groups perpetrating violence along the India-Myanmar border. The operation is still on, suggesting that there might be more confrontations in the field.

The occurrence above happened in Manipur, which is currently experiencing ethnic violence that has not ceased since May 2023, bordering Myanmar by about 1,650 km. The military is indicative of India's attempts to contain insurgents, which is a spillover from Myanmar's civil conflict.

The army targeted a number of insurgent groups who had reportedly moved into Myanmar for respite and returned to India after taking part in that country's civil war, which was sparked by a coup in 2021.

The region is currently in chaos due to Myanmar's non-political turmoil and the ethnic fissures that have been ongoing in Manipur. With almost 260 dead and over 60,000 homeless in Manipur for last year, the government imposed direct rule in their efforts to regain control.

The army engaged the militants during a supposedly routine reconnaissance and combing operation, undertaken to neutralize cross-border threats and restore peace in two divided areas of the state-the Meitei-dominated valley and the Kuki-controlled hills.
