Jakarta: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced on Monday that his government aims to build a fair and balanced partnership with the United States, as it prepares to address a recent 32% tariff imposed by the Trump administration.
Speaking at a rice harvesting event in West Java, Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s preference for diplomacy over confrontation.
“We intend to open negotiations with the U.S. We want a strong relationship — one that is fair and equal,” he stated.
Rather than respond with retaliatory measures, Jakarta plans to send a high-level delegation to Washington to open discussions. Indonesia is one of six Southeast Asian nations affected by the increased U.S. tariffs announced last week.
