Islamabad: In the wake of recent escalations between Pakistan and India, several global powers have expressed their concerns and reactions.
China Expresses Concern and Calls for Restraint
China has expressed regret over India’s attacks on Pakistan and voiced concern about the rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the region, urging both countries to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further complicate the situation. “China opposes all forms of terrorism and hopes that both India and Pakistan, as neighboring countries, will prioritize peace,” the spokesperson stated.
Turkey Reaffirms Support for Pakistan
Turkey has voiced strong support for Pakistan in response to India’s alleged violations of Pakistani sovereignty. During a meeting with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the Turkish ambassador expressed solidarity with Pakistan and reiterated Turkey’s commitment to close cooperation. The two sides discussed regional security concerns in detail and agreed to maintain strong coordination.
United States Reacts to Escalation
At the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump termed the situation between India and Pakistan as "shameful" during a press interaction. He acknowledged hearing about the developments just before entering the Oval Office and expressed hope for a de-escalation, stating, “They have been fighting for a long time, perhaps centuries if you think about it.”
United Nations Expresses Deep Concern
The United Nations, through a statement from Secretary-General António Guterres's spokesperson, expressed deep concern over the Indian military actions across the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border. The UN urged both countries to exercise maximum restraint, warning that the world cannot afford a military conflict between two nuclear-armed nations.
Military Clash on the Line of Control (LoC)
The recent hostilities began with India launching attacks on Pakistani territory under the cover of darkness, which led to retaliatory actions from Pakistan’s armed forces. According to Pakistani authorities, their military shot down five Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale jets, and destroyed multiple Indian military positions, including a brigade headquarters. The Pakistan Army claimed that the Indian forces raised white flags at the Chora Complex along the LoC.
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, in a press briefing, confirmed that the Indian military raised white flags and that several Indian posts were destroyed following Pakistan’s strong response.
