Islamabad: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has granted post-arrest bail to 56 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers detained in connection with the November 26 protest.
According to report, ATC Judge Abu Al-Hasanat Muhammad Zulqarnain announced the verdict, approving the bail requests of 56 PTI workers upon submission of surety bonds worth Rs. 5,000 each.
The cases against these workers were registered at Tarnol and Kohsar police stations for their participation in the protest.
The protest, which took place on November 24, 2024, was led by former First Lady Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. PTI supporters had marched from Peshawar to Islamabad, demanding the release of party founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan. By the night of November 25, the protesters had reached the outskirts of Islamabad.
Upon entering the federal capital the next day, violent clashes erupted between PTI supporters and law enforcement agencies, leaving several individuals, including police officers, injured.
On the night of November 26, Bushra Bibi, Ali Amin Gandapur, and PTI leader Umar Ayub reportedly left the protest via Haripur towards Mansehra, while the demonstrators also dispersed and returned to their homes.
Following the protest, multiple cases were registered against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Ali Amin Gandapur, and several PTI leaders and workers in various police stations across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The charges, filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, included accusations of damaging public and private property, blocking highways, and unlawful assembly.
