Jerusalemra: In a rare move, Israel has released the names of over 60 Palestinians from Gaza currently held in its prisons and camps, according to a joint statement by the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society and the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs.
The announcement, made public on April 22, 2025, follows amendments to Israel’s “Unlawful Combatant” law.
Despite this release, prisoner groups say Israel continues to withhold clear information and is accused of carrying out "enforced disappearances" against Palestinian detainees from Gaza. As of this month, Israeli authorities reportedly classify at least 1,747 Palestinians from Gaza as "unlawful combatants."
Legal experts and human rights monitors have raised alarms over the treatment of these detainees. Testimonies gathered from inside facilities, including the infamous Sde Teiman camp, describe systematic torture, harsh conditions, and prolonged abuse — with no visible signs of change or oversight. Rights groups argue that the new disclosures, though significant, do little to address the broader issue of human rights violations in Israel’s detention system.
