Gaza: An Israeli airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killed two people, including Hamas political bureau member Ismail Barhoum and a 16-year-old boy who had undergone surgery two days earlier.
The attack, which occurred late on Sunday, March 23, 2025, also injured several others and ignited a fire at the hospital’s emergency department.
The assault on the hospital was part of Israel’s renewed offensive, which has seen at least 21 Palestinians killed in multiple airstrikes across Gaza in the past 24 hours, according to medical sources.
The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that the total number of deaths since the conflict began in October 2023 has now surpassed 50,000, marking the deadliest Arab-Israeli conflict in over 40 years.
Hamas condemned the hospital attack, calling it a violation of international laws and accusing Israel of targeting civilians and medical facilities.
The Israeli military defended the strike, stating that it targeted Barhoum, who they claim was operating from within a civilian hospital. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz reaffirmed that the operation was based on intelligence and used precision munitions to minimize collateral damage.
As the conflict escalates, Gaza’s hospitals continue to suffer from repeated strikes and overcrowding, with thousands of injured civilians in urgent need of medical care. The humanitarian crisis worsens, with international organizations calling for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life.
