Israeli Airstrikes on the Makeshift Tent Camp in Khan Younis

Gaza: In Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, a surge of Israeli air raids struck a cluster of makeshift tents, killing at least ten Palestinians and wounding seven, local health officials reported On April 17, 2025,.

The strikes tore through the flimsy shelter, leaving charred debris and panic among families who had built the tents after earlier displacements. Reporting from Deir el‑Balah, Tareq Abu Azzoum confirmed the death toll and injuries.

Among the dead was a 10‑year‑old child with special needs, who was trapped and burned alive as neighbours rushed to douse the flames and pull survivors from the wreckage.

According to hospital staff at Nasser Hospital, the wounded arrived with severe burns and shrapnel wounds, stretching the facility’s limited resources. Doctors and nurses scrambled to treat patients despite shortages of burn dressings and pain relief medication.

Human rights organisations immediately condemned the attack, warning that strikes on civilian tent camps risk breaching international law and amounting to collective punishment. They pointed out that such camps are densely populated and lack sturdily built shelters, making any aerial bombardment especially deadly.

The Palestinian Red Crescent has called for urgent safe corridors to evacuate non‑combatants and provide humanitarian relief.

This latest wave of raids underscores the growing vulnerability of displaced Gazans who have lived in temporary camps since previous conflicts forced them from their homes. With the November ceasefire in effect, air attacks had become less frequent—but sporadic strikes on civilian areas continue to shatter hopes for lasting calm.

Observers say the pattern reflects an intensifying strategy by the Israeli military to target any locations it deems security threats, even amid calls for de‑escalation.
