Israeli Army Strikes Hezbollah Site in Southern Lebanon Amid Ceasefire Violations

Gaza: The Israeli army carried out an airstrike targeting a Hezbollah site in southern Lebanon On the night of April 16, 2025.

The Israeli military shared the update through its official Telegram channel, stating that the strike was part of an operation against Hezbollah’s use of civilian infrastructure for military purposes. They accused Hezbollah of using Lebanese civilians as human shields to hide its activities.

The airstrike came alongside Israeli fighter jets flying over Beirut and breaking the sound barrier, causing a loud sonic boom that startled residents of the capital.

This incident reflects ongoing tensions despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2023, which was supposed to end a year-long conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Under the terms of that agreement, both sides were expected to withdraw from southern Lebanon and allow the Lebanese army to take control of the area.

However, Israel claims that Hezbollah has not fully removed its military infrastructure from the region. Meanwhile, Israel itself has not fully withdrawn its troops, reportedly keeping forces stationed at five locations in the south. The Lebanese presidency responded by accusing Israel of obstructing the Lebanese army’s deployment and continuing aggressive actions that breach the ceasefire.

The repeated Israeli attacks on southern and eastern Lebanon have raised concerns that the fragile truce may collapse. Human rights groups and political observers worry that the ongoing conflict will escalate if both sides continue their current approach, with civilians once again caught in the crossfire.
