Jerusalem: Israeli opposition leader Benny Gantz has publicly called for a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, saying Israel "must and can" act against the threat posed by Tehran’s nuclear program.
His comments followed recent reports that U.S. President Donald Trump had blocked a planned Israeli attack on Iran, choosing instead to pursue a nuclear agreement. These claims came from unnamed White House officials.
Gantz, who leads the National Unity party, posted his statement on social media, warning that the Iranian government is skilled at delaying tactics. He insisted that the time had come for Israel to eliminate Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
According to him, this action should be carried out in close coordination with the United States, Israel’s long-time ally, with the aim of reshaping the strategic landscape of the Middle East.
His remarks have reignited international discussions about the potential for conflict between Israel and Iran, particularly over nuclear weapons. Gantz’s strong stance signals that pressure is building within Israeli political circles to take decisive action, especially amid rising tensions in the region.
