Israeli Strikes Target Hezbollah Positions in Southern Lebanon

Tel Aviv: The Israeli military launched airstrikes on Hezbollah-linked sites in southern Lebanon on Friday, targeting locations identified as housing weapons and rocket launchers. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the strikes were based on intelligence and aimed at eliminating threats to Israeli security.

According to the IDF, the targeted weapons and launchers violated existing agreements between Israel and Lebanon. Meanwhile, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) confirmed multiple Israeli strikes in different areas of the south.

Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have remained high despite a truce agreement signed on November 27, which was intended to ease hostilities after over a year of cross-border conflict, including two months of intense fighting. While Israel was initially expected to complete its withdrawal from Lebanon by February 18—after missing the initial January deadline—its forces continue to hold strategic positions in five locations.

Under the terms of the ceasefire, Hezbollah was also required to pull back to areas north of the Litani River, approximately 30 kilometers from the border, and dismantle its military infrastructure in southern Lebanon. However, Israeli officials maintain that ongoing Hezbollah activities in the area pose a continued threat.
