KABUL: Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi recently held separate meetings with senior diplomats from the United Arab Emirates and the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing stronger bilateral ties, enhanced trade, and regional transit cooperation.
In talks with Saif Alketbi, the UAE’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Muttaqi highlighted the constructive nature of Kabul-Abu Dhabi relations and expressed optimism that the agreements reached during his recent visit to the Emirates would pave the way for increased commercial and transit collaboration.
Meanwhile, Muttaqi also met with Ali reza Bikdeli, Iran’s acting ambassador in Kabul, and Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Iran’s assistant foreign minister. Their discussions focused on a range of critical bilateral issues, including border, water management and the condition of Afghan refugees residing in Iran.
Since the start of the current solar year, Muttaqi has engaged with officials from several countries including Pakistan, Qatar, Japan, and representatives of the United Nations, as part of a broader diplomatic push aimed at increasing Afghanistan’s cooperation with the international community.
