Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has raised serious concerns over Israel’s nuclear capabilities, urging the international community to remain vigilant and concerned about a state that is not bound by any global nuclear regulations or the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Khawaja Asif emphasized that Israel remains outside the purview of international nuclear governance frameworks. “It is alarming that Israel is not a signatory to the NPT or any other binding international agreements regulating nuclear weapons,” he wrote.
Contrasting Israel’s approach with that of Pakistan, the Defence Minister highlighted that Pakistan adheres to all international nuclear protocols. He reiterated that Pakistan’s nuclear program is designed solely for the benefit of its people and national defense, particularly to counter hostile threats.
“We do not pursue hegemonic policies against our neighbors,” Asif stated, adding that Israel’s current conduct clearly exemplifies a policy of regional dominance.
He further warned that the West should be deeply concerned about the escalating conflicts triggered by Israel, which he said could destabilize not just the Middle East but also extend beyond the region. “Backing a rogue state like Israel could lead to disastrous consequences,” he cautioned.
Separately, Khawaja Asif announced that arrangements have been made to ensure the safe return of Pakistani nationals stranded in Iran. So far, 450 citizens have been repatriated, he confirmed, assuring that efforts are ongoing to bring the remaining individuals home safely.
