Kremlin Welcomes U.S Move To Hault Ukraine's Military Aid

Moscow: The Kremlin has praised the United States' decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine, calling it a significant step toward ending the war. The unexpected pause, which took effect immediately on Monday night, has disrupted the delivery of hundreds of millions of dollars in weaponry, according to The New York Times.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday that the halt in U.S. military supplies could push Kyiv toward peace negotiations. "If the United States ceases its arms deliveries, it would likely be the most effective move toward a resolution," Peskov said. However, he added that Russia would observe developments before drawing conclusions, noting that Washington has been Ukraine’s primary military backer since the invasion began.

The suspension of aid has caused alarm in Ukraine, with many seeing it as a strategic advantage for Moscow. Ukrainian journalist Denys Kazansky highlighted the imbalance, pointing out that while U.S. support had stopped, Russia continued to receive military aid from countries like North Korea and Iran.

Meanwhile, European leaders have responded by reinforcing their commitment to Ukraine’s defense. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen unveiled a five-point strategy aimed at securing 800 billion euros to strengthen Europe’s military capabilities and provide immediate support to Kyiv. "This is Europe’s moment to take the lead, and we are ready," she declared in Brussels.

The United Kingdom also reaffirmed its commitment to Ukraine despite the U.S. decision. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer remains focused on efforts to secure peace, his deputy Angela Rayner emphasized on Tuesday.
