RIYADH: President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives has praised Saudi Arabia’s Makkah Route Initiative as a reflection of the Kingdom’s commitment to serving Islam and Muslims around the world.
Speaking at the official launch of the initiative in the Maldives, Muizzu said the program demonstrates the Kingdom’s leadership in uniting the Islamic world through service and compassion.
“Their leadership of the Islamic world represents an exemplary model of giving, unity, and service, not only at the two holy mosques, but throughout the entire Islamic world,” he said.
The president noted that this year marks the first time Maldivian pilgrims will benefit from the initiative, which is provided under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Guests Program and aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
The Makkah Route Initiative streamlines the pilgrimage process by allowing pilgrims to complete all passports, customs, and health procedures at the point of departure. For Maldivian pilgrims, this process will take place at Velana International Airport.
Muizzu expressed his appreciation to the Saudi ministries of interior and Hajj and Umrah, along with other participating entities, for their support in implementing the initiative.
“We renew our great gratitude and appreciation for the leadership and people of Saudi Arabia,” he said. “We look forward to enhancing cooperation and joint work under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for the good of the entire Islamic nation.”
The Makkah Route Initiative currently operates in eight countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkiye, Morocco, Ivory Coast, and now the Maldives.
