Mass Shooting at Swedish School Leaves at Least 11 Dead

Örebro: Authorities in Sweden have confirmed that a shooting at a secondary school in Örebro on Tuesday, February 4, has left at least 11 people dead, including the suspected shooter.

Initially, officials reported only a few injuries, but later, police confirmed the fatalities. Details regarding the victims and the shooter's identity have not yet been disclosed.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described the incident as "the worst mass killing in the country's history." In a press conference, he acknowledged that many questions remained unanswered about the attack. "In time, we will understand what happened, how it happened, and what may have motivated it," he said.

Authorities have stated that preliminary investigations suggest the shooter acted alone. However, they have not confirmed reports from local media that the attacker took his own life.

According to police, the attacker brought smoke-producing devices into the school during the assault. Media reports also claim that police raided the suspect’s home in Örebro, describing him as a 35-year-old man who legally owned a firearm permit. However, police have not verified these claims.

While mass killings are rare in Sweden, school attacks have become more frequent in recent years.

In March 2022, an 18-year-old student in Malmö fatally stabbed two teachers. Just two months earlier, police arrested a 16-year-old student for stabbing and injuring a fellow student and a teacher.

The motive behind the Örebro school attack remains unclear as authorities continue their investigation.
