Military Operation Instead of Dialogue with Baloch Will Lead to Disaster: Afrasiab Khattak

Peshawar: Senior leader of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) and former senator Afrasiab Khattak has warned that opting for another military operation instead of engaging in dialogue with Baloch nationalists will lead to disaster.

In a post on social media platform X, Khattak recalled that when the National Awami Party opposed the military operation in East Bengal, General Yahya Khan banned the party in November 1971, and just a month later, Pakistan was dismembered in December.

His remarks came in response to the recent attack on the Jaffer Express and the subsequent National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, where the government emphasized the urgent implementation of the National Action Plan and the "Azm-e-Istahkam" operation to combat terrorism.

The official statement released after the meeting stressed the need for a strategic and unified political commitment to tackle security threats with the full power of the state. It also highlighted the importance of national consensus on counterterrorism efforts. However, some political parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), did not attend the meeting.
