Moscow: The Kremlin has strongly condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent remarks about U.S. President Donald Trump. Zelensky had claimed that Trump "lives in a world of misinformation created by Russia."
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Thursday dismissed Zelensky’s statement as "unacceptable." He further criticized Ukrainian officials for making inappropriate comments about foreign leaders.
"In recent months, many representatives of the Ukrainian government have been making unacceptable statements about the heads of other states," Peskov said.
Commenting on Russia-U.S. ties, Peskov revealed that Moscow and Washington are set to resume dialogue at "all levels." This development comes after a significant phone call between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin last week, which ended a three-year halt in direct communication between the two nations.
Meanwhile, Russia's ambassador to the UK supported Trump’s stance that Ukraine should hold elections. Speaking on BBC’s Newsnight, the envoy pointed out that Zelensky’s constitutional term had expired in May last year.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, on Wednesday, denied claims that Moscow was preventing Europe from participating in peace negotiations over Ukraine.
"Regarding Kyiv, I have never refused to engage with European leaders," Putin stated.
Adding to the controversy, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted Trump’s recent comments, in which he blamed Ukraine for initiating the war.
"No Western leader has ever said this before, but Trump has done so multiple times. This means he understands our position," Lavrov remarked.
