Islamabad: The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) has issued a weather advisory warning of rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall expected to affect northern and western parts of Pakistan from February 25 to March 1.
According to the NEOC, a westerly weather system will bring rain, hailstorms, and snowfall to several regions, including Islamabad, upper Punjab, Potohar, and central, southern, and northeastern Punjab. Authorities have cautioned that heavy rainfall could potentially lead to flash floods in vulnerable areas.
In Balochistan, western, northwestern, and northern areas are likely to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms, along with snowfall over hilly areas. The advisory also warns of the possibility of flash flooding in susceptible parts of the province.
Similar weather conditions are forecasted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), particularly in the Malakand and Hazara divisions, where hailstorms, heavy rain, and snowfall on hills are expected. Authorities have highlighted the risk of flash floods and landslides in northern KP.
The regions of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) are also expected to face rain, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and snowfall on higher elevations, which may disrupt travel and daily life.
Meanwhile, Sindh is forecasted to remain mostly cold and dry during this period.
The National Disaster Monitoring Authority (NDMA) has assured that it is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure timely response and safety measures. Authorities have also advised caution for tourists in Murree, Galliyat, and other northern areas due to the risk of heavy snowfall affecting travel conditions.
The NDMA has urged the public to stay informed through its ‘Pak NDMA Alert App’ for regular weather updates and safety guidance.
