New Israeli Law Prohibits Palestinian Teachers at Graduations

The Israeli government approved a law on Sunday that bans people with academic qualifications in Palestinian schools from teaching in Israeli schools.

The legislation, introduced by Likud's Amit Haleviand other  lawmakers, increases the education minister's responsibility to deny employment for teaching permits to anyone with a bachelor's degree from a university in the Palestinian Authority.

According to Haaretz, the bill calls for more Israeli citizens and residents to earn diplomas from Palestinian Authority (PA) schools and then teach inIsraeli schools.

"The work of these schools in many cases includes anti-Semitic content and indoctrination aimed at denying the State of Israel and causing violent opposition to it," the bill said.

When a bill is introduced to Parliament, it must be read three times before it becomes law, with the support of the Legislative Council of Ministers to ensure the government's support.

If the law is passed, there will be an exemption for teachers who received diplomas or completed most of their education before the law came into affects, but they will only continue to work in education in-Israel once they have completed their training.

If  passed,  teachers who are certified or have completed most of their pre-legal education would be exempt, but they would only be able to teach inIsrael after graduating.

The bill allows the Education Ministry to reduce funding for schools found to support or promote terrorise or organisations. The bill targets Arab Schools in  East Jerusalem, which Israeli officials have called "open terrorists" and "incite children against the state of Israel."

In response, the Arab Education Council criticised the law, saying it aims to promote terrorism and hinder freedom of expression and basic education.

The Committee explained that this law was nothing more than another step in the policy aimed at preventing the Palestinian people in the country from expressing their important opinions that affect their feelings and opinions.

MP Amit Halevi said the law was passed despite objections from legal advisors, adding, "When the law is passed, no one who received training in the Palestinian Authority will  be able to become anIsraeli teacher." They will be welcome in Tehran andRamallah, but not in our schools.
