No Deal Yet with U.S., Talks Under Review: Abbas Araghchi

Tehran: Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that no agreement has been reached yet for fresh negotiations with the United States, though the possibility is currently under review.

In an interview with Iranian state television, Araghchi clarified that any decision to engage in talks would be based on national interests rather than emotional responses — even if such talks are held under hostile circumstances.

His remarks came in response to recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a potential new round of negotiations. Araghchi confirmed that internal discussions are ongoing within Iran, but as of now, “no agreement” has been made with Washington.

Speaking on the role of Europe in these discussions, Araghchi said plainly, “To be honest, the United States had no interest in having Europe present at the negotiations.” He added that Europe had been excluded from the dialogue with the U.S. at Washington’s behest, although European nations are actively seeking a role in the process. “We have no objection to Europe’s involvement,” he stated.

On the issue of Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Araghchi addressed a parliamentary resolution calling for suspension of cooperation. He emphasized that the resolution does not completely close the door on engagement and leaves the final decision to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Commenting on a recent report by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Araghchi criticized it as lacking fairness and accused Grossi of intentionally reviving an outdated issue from two decades ago. “In our view, this report facilitated Western decisions and paved the way for attacks on Iran,” he asserted.

He further condemned any potential military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling it “an unforgivable crime under international law.” Araghchi urged the IAEA chief to personally condemn such threats, lamenting that Grossi had failed to do so.
