New Zealand batsman Rachin Ravindra suffered a forehead injury during the opening ODI of a tri-series match against Pakistan, sparking criticism of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). There are also questions over whether Lahore is qualified to host the Champions Trophy in 2025 after the event at Gaddafi Stadium.
When Ravindra was trying to catch a ball during Pakistan's innings, he got injured. In the glare of the LED floodlights, he reportedly lost sight of the ball, and it struck him in the forehead. He was injured, and medical personnel saw him right away.
Cricket fans and social media users have criticized the PCB for the stadium's poor floodlights since the event. If Pakistan is unable to provide suitable playing conditions, some have urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reevaluate Pakistan as the Champions Trophy host and propose moving the competition to Dubai.
Rashid Latif, a former captain of Pakistan, pointed out that it can be challenging to see the ball in LED lighting. According to New Zealand Cricket, Ravindra is "otherwise well" but will be watched.
