Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has sounded the alarm over the worsening toll on children in Gaza, reporting that more than 100 children are being killed or injured every day amid intensifying Israeli airstrikes and a deepening humanitarian crisis.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini called the situation “harrowing” in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), referencing data from UNICEF. “Every day, at least 100 children fall victim to the violence. There is no justification for the killing of children,” he emphasized.
According to UNICEF, since Israel resumed its offensive on March 18 — following the collapse of a temporary truce with Hamas — at least 322 Palestinian children have been killed and 609 injured.
UNRWA has highlighted that nearly one million children in Gaza are now trapped under relentless bombardment, with the humanitarian situation worsening due to Israel’s continued blockade of aid deliveries into the territory.
Since the conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, following a Hamas attack on Israeli territory that left approximately 1,200 Israelis dead, more than 15,000 children in Gaza have been killed, over 34,000 injured, and close to one million displaced, according to UN figures.
Lazzarini described Gaza as “a forbidden land” for Palestinian children and said the war has stripped them of their basic rights and childhood. “This is a stain on our shared humanity,” he said, urging a return to ceasefire negotiations that had briefly given hope to Gaza’s children.
He concluded with a stark message: “Gaza has become a ‘no-land’ for children. The world must act now to stop this suffering.”
