Islamabad: In an interview on Geo News program "Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath", Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that Pakistan is willing to involve the United Nations in investigating the recent Pahalgam incident in India. He mentioned that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already offered India a joint investigation and reiterated that an inquiry could be conducted either by two or three neutral countries or through a UN commission.
He emphasized that only those with clean hands offer to open investigations, adding that India is hesitant because it fears what might be revealed. Despite the tensions, he noted that the possibility of dialogue should never be ruled out and that negotiations are the best path forward in any crisis.
Khawaja Asif observed that while the likelihood of a direct military conflict between Pakistan and India has decreased, the Indian government appears to be acting in a panicked manner. He pointed out that several international powers—including the United States, Russia, China, Türkiye, and Iran—are urging for the matter to be resolved through dialogue and could potentially initiate the investigation.
He raised questions about the quick registration of an FIR within 10 minutes of the incident in Pahalgam, suggesting inconsistencies and cracks in India's narrative emerging from within the country itself.
He clarified that the appointment of Pakistan’s National Security Advisor is unrelated to the ongoing issues or the prospects of talks with India.
