Pakistan Witnessed 79 Security Attacks in February, Majority in KP and Balochistan

Islamabad: A research institute in Pakistan has reported that the country witnessed 79 security attacks in February 2025, with 76 of them occurring in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.

The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a non-governmental organization, released its monthly report on Sunday, March 2, detailing the incidents. According to the report, these attacks resulted in the deaths of 47 security personnel and 55 civilians. Additionally, 81 security personnel and 45 civilians sustained injuries.

The report states that most of the attacks took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the former tribal areas (FATA). A total of 21 attacks in tribal districts resulted in 22 security personnel and 8 civilians being killed.

Pakistan’s security forces also carried out counter-operations, killing 98 militants, injuring 15, and arresting 50 suspected militants.

According to PICSS, the majority of the attacks were claimed by militant groups, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Lashkar-e-Islam and the Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction.

In Balochistan, the report noted 32 militant attacks, which left 10 security personnel, 35 civilians, and 11 militants dead. Responsibility for these attacks was taken by Baloch militant groups, including Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), and United Baloch Army (UBA).

In Sindh, three minor attacks were recorded, resulting in the death of one security official. However, Punjab remained free from any attacks in February. Security forces in Punjab did, however, arrest 16 suspected militants.

The report highlights an increase in security operations against militants last month. In these operations, 156 militants were killed, 20 were injured, and 66 suspected militants were arrested.

In the first two months of 2025, Pakistan has recorded 153 attacks, resulting in 179 deaths, including 104 security personnel and 75 civilians. Security operations during this period led to the killing of 364 militants and the arrest of 70 suspected militants.

Additionally, the report states that 46 incidents of kidnapping were recorded in the country during the first two months of the year.

The Pakistan Army has not yet responded to the findings of this report.
