Pakistani Senate Rejects Indian Allegations Over Pahalgam Attack, Warns Against Water Aggression

Islamabad: The upper house of Pakistan's parliament, the Senate, has unanimously rejected India's allegations linking Pakistan to a recent attack on tourists in Pahalgam, a region in Indian-administered Kashmir.

In a strongly-worded resolution, the Senate reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and emphasized that the killing of innocent civilians goes against the country’s core principles.

The resolution also condemned India’s reported suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, labeling it as “water aggression” and a serious provocation. It warned that any military adventurism or violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty would be met with a “strong and effective response,” asserting that the country would make no compromises on national sovereignty.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who presented the resolution, stressed that water is the “lifeline” for Pakistan’s 240 million citizens. He clarified that India had not directly named Pakistan in relation to the Pahalgam incident and that there was no evidence linking Pakistan to the attack. However, he said India’s actions and statements imply indirect accusations.

Dar warned that any move by India to terminate the Indus Waters Treaty would be considered an act of war. He noted that despite tensions, both nations have historically respected the treaty, but if India opts to revoke it, Pakistan would be compelled to reconsider its commitment to other bilateral agreements, including the Simla Accord.

The resolution also alleged that India has been involved in terrorism and targeted killings not only in Pakistan but in other countries as well, demanding that India be held accountable for these actions.
