NEW DELHI: PM Modi has cancelled his scheduled tour of Europe that would have included stops in Croatia, Norway, and the Netherlands. This occurred in light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan ever since India carried out a military operation in Pakistan. Modi was to attend the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Oslo on 15-16 May. The trip was cancelled to attend to the urgent security scenario
This decision came in the wake of the "Operation Sindoor," which was carried out early Wednesday morning. In coordination with the Army, Navy, and Air Force, This was retaliation to the dastardly attack at Pahalgam on 22 April in which 26 Indian civilians lost their lives. The Government was at pains to stress that the strikes targeted only infrastructure and refrained from hitting military facilities, while viewing the response as a strong statement against the escalation of cross-border attack.
Modi, who was actively monitoring the progress of events, alongside top military officials and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, described the strikes as "focused, measured and non-escalatory." Thus, while the military went in for action, India kept reiterating its commitment to security but with restraint.
Apart from the Europe visit, Modi has also put off his plans to go to Moscow to participate in the celebrations of Victory Day. The Indian government stands firm and adamant in holding those behind the attack accountable while giving their word to security and stability for the country.
