Sudan finds itself in deep turmoil as the commune faces a massive famine, in his recent statements Pope Francis demanded the uninterrupted and immediate provision of humanitarian aid to Sudan. While engaging with the international federations of countries, he worked to gather support so that the people of Sudan could get efficient help. The simmering violence and unrest within the region emphasize the lack of adequate food necessities for the locals. Furthermore, the Pope added that ‘between the endless violence and poverty, those who are most disadvantaged are the ones who suffer the consequences- with hundreds of thousands displaced’ thus it is crucial to immediately help the locals by providing them bread, medicine and all other necessary amenities by establishing a ceasefire to enable aid transfer. Moreover, in tandem while seeking for a ceasefire, Pope Francis further urged all leaders to show aid towards the civilians in engaging in supporting them and showing empathy.
In the end, Pope Francis also mentioned the importance of supporting the people of Sudan in rebuilding their nation as health systems and agriculture were crucial alongside the infrastructure. The Pope expressed his message during his week’s speech at the Vatican and prayed for the aid workers along with the ones risking their lives to provide core services in Sudan. The international organizations have placed the humanitarian issue as a top concern and have emphasized the need for a global uniform response signaling a preemptive non-escalation of the crisis to several countries. Many of the citizens in Sudan have been thankful to the Pope for giving a statement that highlighted their suffering. Local charities along with the religious organizations have been working hard to offer food, medicines and other necessary materials but still there is a vast scarcity of needed supplies. In addition to the food inflation that affected Sudan, the health care system deteriorated and is no longer functional in most of its parts. For disadvantaged people struggling with under-nutrition and unhealed diseases, the situation only got worse.
The world community has not abandoned Sudan and, along with the UN and charitable organizations, makes efforts to increase the financial and material inflow into the country. Sadly, there are self-evident impediments that exist such as conflict that set forth instability and the local factions controlling aid and its distribution. As part of the humanitarian support of nations that need help, the provision of food, water and medical aid are all basic human rights, and thus, should be afforded by every nation. Pope Francis has always been in favor of peace and compassion during the time of crises, and therefore his appeal for humanitarian aid access and peaceful settlement is never out of the pattern.
