Colombo: Addressing the nation at Sri Lanka’s 77th Independence Day celebrations, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stressed the importance of a united effort to achieve true economic, social, and cultural freedom.
The President highlighted that every citizen plays a vital role in this journey, likening the nation’s struggles to a shared battlefield.
He acknowledged the contributions of farmers, fishermen, educators, healthcare workers, security forces, and industrial workers, emphasizing that their collective efforts drive the nation forward.
He also recognized the role of expatriates, tea plantation workers, IT professionals, and those in the tourism and service industries, stating that their dedication is crucial in strengthening the country’s economy.
Calling for resilience in the face of global economic challenges, the President urged citizens to remain steadfast in their commitment to national progress.
He emphasized that economic freedom must not come at the expense of social and cultural values, reaffirming the need for a balanced and determined approach to the country’s development.
