Washington: Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, President Donald Trump addressed the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan following a recent attack in Indian-administered Kashmir.
When asked if he had a message for the two countries, President Trump responded, "I have close relations with India, and I am very close to Pakistan as well. As you know, both countries have been entangled in Kashmir conflict for thousands of years. It’s a very bad situation, and something similar happened just the other day (Tuesday), where about 30 people were killed."
It remained unclear whether President Trump's statement exaggerating the historical timeline of the India-Pakistan conflict was intended as a sarcastic remark or if it was an unintentional error.
Without correcting his historical reference, reporters further pressed Trump for his opinion on the latest border tensions. In response, the President said, "There has been tension between the two countries for more than 1,500 years, but somehow, the two leaders will find a way to resolve the issue themselves."
