LUMBINI, Nepal, 26th April: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the 4th Asian Buddhist Cultural Festival today in Lumbini, the revered birthplace of Lord Buddha. The event commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp at the Mayadevi Temple, symbolizing the spread of peace and enlightenment.
In his address, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the significance of Buddhism in promoting global peace and cultural harmony. He stated, "Buddhism serves as a bridge connecting nations, fostering mutual respect and understanding among diverse cultures." Highlighting Lumbini's pivotal role, he added, "As the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, Lumbini stands as a beacon of spiritual heritage and unity."
The festival features a series of cultural performances, including traditional dances and musical presentations from various Asian countries, reflecting the rich tapestry of Buddhist traditions. An academic seminar titled "Buddhist Cultural Heritage of Asia" is also being held, bringing together scholars and practitioners to discuss the preservation and promotion of Buddhist teachings.
Organized by the Lumbini Development Trust in collaboration with international Buddhist organizations, the festival aims to strengthen cultural ties and promote Lumbini as a global center for Buddhist learning and pilgrimage.
The 4th Asian Buddhist Cultural Festival will continue over the next three days, offering visitors an immersive experience into the spiritual and cultural legacy of Buddhism.
