Seoul came under multiple protests after President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached. Many protesters in South Korea were not happy with the decision of the president being impeached and therefore took to the streets where riots broke out instead of fights to help voice their opinions on the sensitive matter. On the other hand, the protest was also a clear horror of how the political situation is developing in the country. Each rioter had a bin outlining the description about the President getting impeached for showing support or strong opposition multiple times.
The first group of protesters gathered in favor of Yoon's impeachment, citing constitutional reasons which did not suit the law to allow him to rule. Protestors have also gone on to say that under his rule, democracy was hampered and the international status of the state went lower. It’s yet another day of widespread anger as hand wiping disgruntled citizens shake flags demanding a higher ‘code of conduct’ from the most prestigious post of the country.
On the other side, supporters in favor of Yoon claimed in large number that without any proper reason, the impeachment was brought about to ridicule the government. Further, they also went against opposition who they accused of being in this for sheer politics. To them, the reason is an attempt to undermine his administration politically, the opposition is stronger than ever. The protests raise questions about South Korea's political position, including the calls for unity and stability of the nation. Several protests have degenerated into violent confrontation between members of society and the police. To prevent further violence from occurring, the government had strengthened security guarantees.
Still, legal experts, despite the protests, argue that the process would most probably go to the courts for more examination into the impeachment procedure. Many South Korean voices, however, seem to be advocating for the need to be patient during this difficult time for South Korea and the difficulties of upholding democracy while also being effective and open. The results of these protests have the possibility of altering the politics of South Korea as the civilians want action that will be peaceful. The country depends on western powers to deal with the fountain of order throughout all administration branches of government within Korea.
