The UAE has announced reduced working hours for private sector employees during the holy month of Ramadan, as per the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE). Working hours will be reduced by two hours daily, allowing employees to observe fasting and religious practices with ease. Employers may introduce flexible work patterns or remote work options, provided they comply with the revised working hours.

Ramadan 2025 is expected to begin on Saturday, March 1, as per the UAE’s International Astronomy Centre (IAC), which stated that the crescent moon will likely be visible on the night of February 28. However, the official start of the holy month will be confirmed by moon-sighting committees, which will convene on Shaban 29 (February 28) to determine if the crescent is sighted. Islamic months follow a lunar cycle, lasting either 29 or 30 days, meaning Ramadan’s duration will also depend on the sighting of the next crescent.

For government employees, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (Fahr) has set official Ramadan working hours from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM (Monday to Thursday) and 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Fridays. These reduced hours aim to accommodate fasting employees while maintaining workflow efficiency.

Ramadan is a significant time for Muslims worldwide, marked by fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayers, and acts of charity. In the UAE, authorities implement various measures to facilitate a smooth transition into the holy month, ensuring both public and private sector employees can balance their professional and spiritual commitments.
