New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the first-ever budget by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for Delhi in the almost 30 years since it was ousted away from there. A budget of Rs 1 lakh crore has been proposed to address the burning issues of the city in what has primarily been framed under the purview of women's welfare, infrastructure development, and pollution control. The budget undeniably seems to be a counter by BJP to AAP, in power for nearly a decade now in Delhi.
The financial blueprint inspires future economic thoughts with a considerable rise by 31.5% from last year's AAP budget attached to developments in the Capitol. In an unprecedented style, the BJP budget envisages an allocation of Rs 28,000 crore for capital expenditure toward repair of roadworks in the city and improving traffic management and flood control. Quite notably, the party aims to allocate a Rs 5,100 crore similar scheme to Rs 2,500 per month to the womenfolk from the Mahila Samridhi Yojana.
Also received under the limelight for this budget is the pollution conundrum, with a striking amount of Rs 300 crore to be directed towards Delhi's air quality. The restoration of the Yamuna and sewer treatment plants like these are supposed to rank high on the zone with Rs 500 crore allocation.
Presently, Rs 1,000 crore is designated to bolster the public transport system and Rs 696 crore will be spent on housing for the welfare of the economically weak. The safety of women will be enhanced through a considerable addition of 50,000 CCTV camera placements and free bus passes for women. The BJP also promises to government schools in the education sector, setting up CM-SHRI schools on the line of PM-SHRI.
This budget reflects BJP's brand of development articulated with a vision set of enabling the rejuvenation of Delhi into a monument filled with changes in the city's infrastructure, environment, and welfare.
