Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - The Riyadh Metro is scheduled to begin partial operations on Wednesday, November 29, 2024, marking a milestone in the development of the city’s public transportation system. As one of the largest urban transportation systems in the world, the Riyadh Metro is a key project of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, designed to improve mobility and reduce congestion in the capital.

The first phase of operation will see two main lines open to the public. The Blue Line (Line 1) and Red Line (Line 2) connect key areas including King Fahd Road, Olaya Road and the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD). These lines aim to provide a convenient and reliable alternative for users traveling through Riyadh’s busy streets. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has carefully planned the layout to ensure accessibility and ease of use.

The Riyadh Metro stands out for its cutting-edge features. Passengers can expect driverless trains equipped with the latest technology, smart ticketing systems for hassle-free travel, and dedicated sections for women and families to enhance passenger comfort. When fully operational, the metro will have the capacity to carry approximately 3.5 million passengers per day, significantly reducing traffic congestion and contributing to a more sustainable urban environment. Riyadh residents are eagerly awaiting the launch of the metro, seeing it as a solution to the city’s traffic woes. One user expressed his enthusiasm: “This metro system will save time and make daily travel easier. This is exactly what we need for a growing city like Riyadh.”

Authorities are encouraging residents to familiarize themselves with the Metro routes and services through the official website and the Riyadh Metro app. Detailed information on ticket prices and schedules will be released in the coming days, which will help users plan their trips effectively.

As the Riyadh Metro begins partial operation, it represents the first step towards a fully integrated public transport system. Once completed, the network will include six lines and 85 stations, providing seamless connections across the city and revolutionizing urban travel in the Kingdom.
