Ronaldo Eyes Asian Glory as Saudi Clubs Dominate Champions League

TOKYO: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, along with Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli, represent Saudi Arabia in the Asian Champions League last 16.

Saudi clubs dominated the West zone league stage, with Al-Hilal finishing first on goal difference ahead of Al-Ahli, while Al-Nassr secured third place. These teams now face tough knockout matches.

The first leg of the last-16 matches begins next week, with Al-Nassr playing Iran’s Esteghlal in Tehran on Monday. The second leg and subsequent knockout rounds will continue through April and May.

Matches will be played across Asia, including Iran, Qatar, and Uzbekistan, with the final stage hosted in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi clubs have heavily invested in top European stars, aiming for regional dominance and international football recognition, aligning with the Kingdom’s ambitious sports development Al-Nassr, bolstered by Cristiano Ronaldo and recent signing Jhon Duran, must stay disciplined against Esteghlal. Al-Hilal, despite losing Neymar, remains a favorite against Pakhtakor. Meanwhile, Al-Ahli’s strong attack led by Ivan Toney, Roberto Firmino, and Riyad Mahrez will be key in their clash with Al-Rayyan.

The East zone features dominant Japanese teams, with Yokohama F-Marinos, Kawasaki Frontale, and Vissel Kobe all advancing. The winners from both zones will compete in the finals in Saudi Arabia.
