New Delhi: The much-awaited Sikandar, starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, has had a stellar start at the box office, raking in Rs 90 crore by the fifth day. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film is having a tough time getting on to the Rs 100 crore club in India with a Friday release. And after an unusual stamina on the part of Salman Khan as star power, this movie has not been performing well, casting doubts over the coming weeks of its life.
On Thursday, Sikandar's net to the core Register" for Rs 5.75 crore, taking the total domestic collection to Rs 90 crore. Besides, the film has already grossed Rs 158.5 crore worldwide, the production sets announced. Nevertheless, the general mood for the film has become sombre. It is said, and even that has not been enough to sustain within the high expectations for the opening. For instance, previous films by Salman Khan sampled: Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan grossed Rs 82.15 crore in its first five days, very much an improvement compared to Sikandar, which needed much more sustenance from this phase to pave the way to being potentially the blockbuster in the long run.
The timing of the release could be an influential aspect in determining how well Sikandar performs at the box office. It opened on a Sunday, missing out on the key Friday and Saturday collections. This probably hurt its opening weekend performance, given a large first-weekend surge for a Salman Khan movie is normal. On the other hand, Sikandar is already declining in audience interest at the end of the week-even making the future rather bleak.

It will be very critical for the holding power of the movie through its one-week run to get rid of the underwhelming start. This, in turn, shall determine the situation at the box office as well as the expectations for Salman Khan's upcoming films.
