Saudi Arabia and Lebanon Strengthen Ties: Reaffirm Commitment to Stability

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Lebanese Republic have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Arab cooperation and coordinating positions on key regional and international issues. Both nations underscored the importance of implementing the Taif Agreement and upholding Lebanon’s sovereignty.

According to reports, a joint statement was issued following the official visit of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to Saudi Arabia, where he was received by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh. The discussions centered on reinforcing bilateral ties and fostering economic and security cooperation.

Key highlights of the meeting include Commitment to Sovereignty: Both sides emphasized the necessity of fully implementing the Taif Agreement and relevant international resolutions, ensuring state sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, and limiting arms possession to the Lebanese state, Security and Stability:

They reiterated their support for the Lebanese army’s national role and called for the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Lebanese territories, Economic Cooperation: Discussions included assessing challenges hindering Lebanese exports to Saudi Arabia and identifying measures to facilitate travel for Saudi citizens to Lebanon and Reform and Recovery:

The leaders recognized the urgent need for Lebanon’s economic recovery and stressed the importance of implementing internationally required reforms based on transparency and accountability.

During the meeting, President Aoun conveyed greetings from Lebanon to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and expressed his commitment to deepening Lebanese-Saudi relations. In return, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended his well wishes to Lebanon and welcomed further cooperation.

This visit marks a significant step in reinforcing diplomatic and economic ties between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, setting the stage for continued collaboration on mutual interests and regional stability.
