RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Qatar have jointly paid Syria's outstanding arrears to the World Bank, amounting to $15 million.
This payment follows discussions at the 2025 Spring Meetings of the World Bank and IMF.
With this payment, the World Bank will resume its support in Syria after a 14-year hiatus, helping the country receive new allocations for urgent sectors.
The support will also focus on rebuilding institutions, strengthening capacity, and supporting policy reforms to drive economic growth.
Saudi Arabia and Qatar urged international and regional financial institutions to expand development efforts in Syria and assist in realizing the aspirations of the Syrian people for stability and prosperity.
