Riyadh, February 2025 – Saudi Arabia has officially implemented the Personal Status Family Law Regulations, following approval from Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

According to the source, the regulations, comprising 41 articles, mark a significant milestone in reforming family law. They authorize the Minister of Justice to handle cases of marriage contracts lacking prior approval and allow for new regulations based on legal developments.

Key provisions include the mandatory legal documentation of all non-Muslim marriages, regardless of nationality, and granting wives the right to seek annulment at any time if their husband is strengthened. Privacy protections between spouses have also been reinforced.

The law ensures that a mother retains custody of her child under two, even if she remarries someone unrelated to the child. It also upholds a woman’s right to financial support, sets 18 as the legal marriage age, and grants annulment rights under specific conditions.

The reforms align with Islamic principles and global best practices, forming part of broader legal modernization efforts under Vision 2030.
