Saudi Arabia Launches "Gold Category" to Elevate Local Industry and Boost Global Competitiveness

The Local Content and Government Procurement Authority (LCGPA) of Saudi Arabia has unveiled the "Gold Category" for its Saudi Industry Label as part of the "Made in Saudi" program. This new classification aims to spotlight local industries, encourage private sector innovation, and enhance the global recognition of Saudi products and services.

Announced during the second Local Content Forum in partnership with the Saudi Export Development Authority, the Gold Category represents a significant step toward fostering local content development. It focuses on channeling consumer spending toward domestically produced goods and services while providing businesses with a platform to showcase their commitment to industrial excellence.

Strengthening Domestic and Global Presence

The initiative sets rigorous standards for companies to qualify for the Gold Category, including compliance with Saudi Industry Label criteria and a certified local content certificate from LCGPA. Seven companies from various industries have already earned the designation, reinforcing the program’s emphasis on quality and innovation.

"The label empowers companies by positioning their products as preferred choices for consumers, influencing purchasing decisions, and fostering support for local content," said LCGPA CEO Abdulrahman Al Samari. He also noted that community awareness of local content reached 58% in 2023, reflecting growing national support for the initiative.

Driving Economic Diversification and Export Growth

Saudi Export Development Authority CEO Eng. Abdulrahman Althukair praised the Gold Category as a key element of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the Kingdom’s economy and reduce reliance on oil exports. "This initiative highlights the competitiveness of Saudi products in global markets and strengthens their appeal as symbols of industrial excellence," he said.

The Gold Category is expected to not only boost the reputation of Saudi-made goods internationally but also catalyze innovation and development across industries, aligning with the Kingdom's broader economic transformation agenda.
