Saudi Arabia Rejects Palestinian Displacement, Backs Syria at Baghdad Summit

BAGHDAD: Saudi Arabia has firmly rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians “under any circumstances,” Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir said Saturday at the 34th Arab League Summit in Baghdad.

Al-Jubeir reaffirmed the Kingdom’s unwavering support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He called for intensified efforts to ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to halt the violations committed by Israeli forces, which he described as clear breaches of international law and the UN Charter.

He stressed the urgency of a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and condemned any attempts to impose solutions that ignore Palestinian rights or undermine their aspirations for a state based on 1967 borders.

Al-Jubeir also criticized Israeli attacks on Syria and underscored the need to uphold Syria’s sovereignty and stability.

He welcomed the U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria, calling it a key opportunity for recovery and reconstruction.

Addressing broader regional issues, Al-Jubeir reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to mediating peace in Sudan, urging a complete ceasefire, humanitarian access, and the protection of Sudan’s sovereignty.

He reiterated the Kingdom’s support for a political solution in Yemen and emphasized the importance of maritime security and free navigation in international waters.

Regarding Lebanon, Al-Jubeir voiced support for President Joseph Aoun’s reform efforts and called for all weapons to be brought under state control.

He expressed hope for a stable and unified Lebanon that meets the aspirations of its people.

He concluded by calling for stronger Arab cooperation to ensure peace, development, and prosperity across the region.
