Saudi Arabia Welcomes Yemen Ceasefire

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia welcomed the ceasefire in Yemen, announced by Oman on Wednesday, which aims to protect international navigation and trade.

The Kingdom's Foreign Ministry reiterated its support for efforts leading to a comprehensive political solution to the Yemen crisis, aimed at restoring security and stability in both Yemen and the wider region.

Reported by humanonline, the ceasefire agreement, mediated by Oman, was announced a day earlier and involves the Iran-aligned Houthis and the United States.

President Donald Trump confirmed that the US would halt its airstrikes against the Houthis, citing an agreement by the militants to stop targeting US vessels.

However, the Houthis clarified on Wednesday that the ceasefire does not extend to Israel, implying that their attacks on shipping, which have disrupted global trade, will not fully cease.

Since January, there have been no reports of Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea area. The Houthis have been firing on Israeli and commercial vessels in the Red Sea since October 2023, following Israel's military offensive against Hamas in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the US military reported that it has targeted over 1,000 Houthi sites since the launch of Operation Rough Rider on March 15, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of Houthi fighters and leaders.
