Riyadh: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has unveiled the Saudi Architecture Characters Map, showcasing 19 distinct architectural styles that reflect the Kingdom’s diverse geographical and cultural heritage.
The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aiming to enhance the quality of life and modernize urban landscapes.
The map emphasizes sustainable urban planning that integrates traditional architectural elements with modern designs.
“Saudi Architecture blends our rich heritage with contemporary design thinking. We are enhancing urban landscapes and quality of life while building an architectural framework that balances the past and present. This model will serve as a global source of inspiration for innovation in architectural design,” said the crown prince.
Saudi Architecture is expected to contribute over SR8 billion ($2.13 billion) to the Kingdom’s GDP by 2030.
The initiative will create more than 34,000 direct and indirect jobs across engineering, construction, and urban development sectors.
It aims to make cities more attractive to visitors and tourists, stimulating sectors such as tourism, hospitality, and construction.
The Saudi Architecture Characters Map features 19 architectural styles, including Central Najdi, Northern Najdi, Tabuk Coast, Madinah Rural, Hejazi Coast, and Al-Ahsa Oasis. These styles are derived from urban and historical studies of building traditions passed down through generations.
Each style offers three design typographies: traditional, transitional, and contemporary, allowing developers to use modern materials without additional financial burdens.
The first phase will target Al-Ahsa, Taif, Makkah, and Abha, focusing on major projects, government buildings, and commercial structures.
The initiative involves partnerships between government agencies, engineering firms, and real estate developers. Architectural design studios will provide engineering guidelines, training workshops, and skill development programs to maintain sustainability and quality standards.
The Saudi Architecture Characters Map is set to redefine the Kingdom’s urban identity, blending cultural heritage with innovative design solutions.
