Saudi Education Minister Meets Chinese Officials to Boost Academic Ties

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Education, Yousef Al-Benyan, held a series of meetings with leaders of Chinese universities, research centers, and educational institutions in Beijing.

According to the report, the visit, accompanied by Saudi Ambassador to China Abdulrahman Al-Harbi and the Ministry’s Undersecretary for International Cooperation Nasser Al-Aqeeli, aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in education and research.

Al-Benyan discussed investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia’s public and private education sectors through the “Invest Saudi” initiative and promoted the “Study in Saudi” platform to encourage Chinese students to pursue higher education in the Kingdom.

Two memoranda of cooperation were signed between the Saudi and Chinese ministries of education.

The first, with the China Scholarship Council, focuses on securing seats for Saudi students in top Chinese universities and expanding academic opportunities in priority fields.

The second, signed with China’s Center for Language Education and Cooperation, introduces Chinese language education into Saudi public schools starting this academic year.

During the visit, Al-Benyan also met with Chinese Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng to discuss collaboration in general and higher education, including research, graduate studies, scholarships, and medical training.

The two sides reviewed expanding academic partnerships, promoting innovation, and enhancing investment opportunities in education and e-learning.
