RIYADH: The Ministry of Education has officially approved a mandatory national uniform for all students in Saudi public schools, standardizing dress codes across all educational levels.
Under the new policy, elementary school boys will wear a thobe along with a shemagh or ghutra, and an optional agal. Girls in this level will wear a pink apron over a white blouse.
Intermediate school boys are also required to wear a thobe, shemagh or ghutra, and may optionally wear an agal. Girls will wear an olive green skirt paired with a white blouse.
For secondary school students, Saudi boys must wear a thobe with a ghutra or shemagh, while non-Saudis are permitted to wear a thobe with an optional agal. Girls will don a navy blue skirt with a white blouse.
In kindergarten, boys will wear a thobe or a white shirt with either long or short sleeves and beige pants with an elastic waistband. Girls will wear a white shirt, beige pants, and a knee-length beige apron.
The ministry has also defined sports uniforms by level: elementary students will wear a white shirt and navy blue sweatpants; intermediate students, a white shirt and olive green sweatpants; and secondary students, a white shirt and black sweatpants.
The decision aims to promote unity, national identity, and discipline within the educational environment.
