NEW YORK: Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, and French Ambassador Jérôme Bonnafont co-chaired the first briefing for UN member and observer states on the upcoming international conference for the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question and the two-state solution.
The briefing, held at the UN headquarters in New York, was part of preparations for the Saudi-French-led conference, scheduled for June 2025.
Ambassador Al-Wasel reiterated Saudi Arabia’s firm support for the two-state solution, stressing the importance of an independent Palestinian state for regional peace and stability.
He also announced the formation of working groups to address key issues related to the peace settlement and invited member states to submit proposals for the conference.
The UN-backed conference will provide an inclusive platform to advance international efforts for a just and lasting solution.
During the session, most participating states, including regional blocs and international organizations, voiced strong support for the Saudi-French initiative and reaffirmed the two-state solution as the internationally accepted path.
Several delegations emphasized the need for tangible outcomes, including recognition of Palestine, rejection of annexation, and increased support for the Palestinian government and UNRWA.
Participating states also praised Saudi Arabia for its leadership in supporting the Palestinian cause, chairing the conference, and driving political momentum for a meaningful resolution.
