Saudi Meteorology Chief Elected WMO Regional Chair for Asia

JEDDAH: Ayman Salem Ghulam, CEO of the Saudi National Center for Meteorology, has been elected as the regional chairperson for Asia at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

According to the report, Ghulam was selected during the 18th session of the WMO’s Regional Association II Asia, attended by representatives from member states and climate service organizations.

Following his election, Ghulam reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing meteorological and climate services and addressing environmental challenges across Asia and beyond.

He also announced the Kingdom’s plans to introduce training programs, establish professional qualifications, and upgrade forecasting and monitoring infrastructure to support WMO member states.

The Saudi National Center for Meteorology, established in 2019, leverages advanced technologies for atmospheric research and weather forecasting. 

The WMO, a specialized UN agency, promotes international cooperation on weather, climate, and water-related issues.
