Saudi Warns Expats: SR50,000 Fine for Overstaying Visas

RIYADH: The Ministry of Interior on Tuesday issued a warning to expatriates in Saudi Arabia, stating that those who overstay their visas face severe penalties as the Kingdom prepares for Hajj 2025, according to the report.

According to the ministry’s announcement, penalties for overstaying include fines of up to SR50,000 (approximately $13,000), imprisonment for up to six months, and/or deportation.

Authorities urged citizens and residents to ensure that their visitors, particularly those on Umrah or visit visas, comply with visa regulations.

The ministry emphasized that all visa types except the Hajj visa do not permit holders to perform the pilgrimage.

Commenting on the announcement, Osama Ghanem Alobaidy, a legal expert in Riyadh, called the decision “crucial,” noting that it would support law enforcement and crowd management efforts during the Hajj season to ensure pilgrim safety.

Earlier this month, the ministry also reminded Hajj and Umrah companies to comply with Saudi regulations.

Companies that fail to report overstaying individuals could face fines of up to SR100,000, with penalties increasing based on the number of violators involved.
