RIYADH: The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) continues to bolster youth empowerment in Yemen through major sports and development initiatives.
As part of its efforts, SDRPY has constructed more than 30 basketball and volleyball courts at schools across various Yemeni governorates and supported the development of FIFA-standard stadiums for clubs including Al-Jazira, Al-Rawdah, and Al-Menaa.
According to the agency, these initiatives aim to enhance the skills of Yemeni youth through projects that meet international standards.
SDRPY’s contributions also include restoring sports facilities, sponsoring athletic tournaments, providing technical training and sports education, and nurturing talent among young athletes.
Notable tournaments supported by SDRPY include the Marib Football Championship, which involved 14 clubs and 588 participants, and a basketball competition in Hadramout with 17 clubs and 289 players.
The program also played a key role in rehabilitating the Ali Asad Muthanna Sports Hall in Aden, giving youth access to improved recreational facilities.
In a gesture of support, SDRPY honored Yemen’s U-17 national team following their win against Saudi Arabia in the 2021 West Asian Football Championship.
In June 2020, SDRPY signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Saudi Ministry of Sport to enhance athletics in Yemen.
Since then, the program has supported 264 initiatives across various sectors, including sports, education, healthcare, water, and energy.
