Bannu: Security forces successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment, eliminating all 16 militants involved. The fierce exchange of fire resulted in the killing of five soldiers. Additionally, 13 innocent civilians lost their lives, and 32 others sustained injuries.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attackers, belonging to the terrorist group (Fitnatul Khawarij) attempted to infiltrate the cantonment. However, security personnel responded swiftly, neutralizing the threat.
The ISPR reported that the terrorists, in a desperate move, rammed two explosive-laden vehicles into the cantonment’s wall, causing a partial collapse. Among the neutralized militants, four were confirmed as suicide bombers.
The attack also caused significant damage to a mosque and nearby buildings. Intelligence reports revealed that the assault was planned and directed by militant leaders based in Afghanistan, with Afghan nationals playing a direct role in the attack.
The ISPR called on the interim Afghan government to ensure that its territory is not used against Pakistan. The statement further emphasized that Pakistan reserves the right to take necessary measures to counter threats originating from across the border.
Reaffirming their commitment to eradicating terrorism, the ISPR asserted that the sacrifices of soldiers and innocent civilians would further strengthen Pakistan’s resolve in the fight against terrorism.
